The Building

The magnificent pavilion at Holloway Hill Recreation Ground is the culmination of five years work achieved by the main users of Holloway Hill Recreation Ground in conjunction with Waverley Borough Council. It was officially opened just before Christmas 1998.

The modern building provides first class facilities for players, officials and spectators and includes four comfortable changing rooms and excellent social facilities. There are disabled facilities as well.

Besides being available to support sports activities, community based activities will take place during the weekdays in the social area which is also available for hire for functions and meetings. It is a community facility so we would welcome enquiries from anyone wishing to hire or use the facilities as well as social membership.

Sport at Holloway Hill

The pavilion really provides a big impetus for the development of sports in the area. Besides the current football teams who use the recreation ground, it is the home of the Godalming Cricket Club. Sport has been played at Holloway Hill since the 1880's and the new facility represents an enormous opportunity to considerably enhance and improve sporting activities for the local community, particularly the development of sports opportunities for young people.

A tennis club, Busbridge Tennis Association, is being established. Most of the court time will be available still for the general public, but a local tennis club provides many advantages for local people and improve the standard of tennis.

A superb bowls green is available on the recreation ground, although it operates independently from the Holloway Hill Sports Association.

New members for cricket, football, tennis and bowls would be made very welcome.

Local Community

Many more sporting, social and room hire opportunities are available to the local community. Some of the new activities, such as tennis and junior sports will take a little time to establish and develop. Our local community have an important role to play, not just in participating terms, but also helping to run activities and help to manage these new opportunities.

We warmly welcome members of our local community who wish to assist with the promotion of Holloway Hill Recreation Ground and its opportunities.

Events

Held on the 18th July 2004, the CHASE Annual Cricket Event and fun day was a great success, it featured The Old England XI versus the local team along with refreshments and children’s attractions throughout the day. Read more here.

What's New

The complex is a 'hive of activity' - we have attracted the Adult Education Centre to use our clubroom during school term times and this has been running very successfully - Bridge, Embroidery and Yoga feature during the week and we have had classes from the U3A as well. Godalming Woolsack Rotary Club also holds some of their meetings there.

Outside of this, Fridays are popular for children's parties and we have had quite a few 'repeats'. Adult parties are also well supported (for over 21's please) and these happen on Friday and Saturday nights. The clubroom also has a fully licensed bar and many parties have discos as their main features.

There is huge scope for other activities - wedding receptions (we have had two and these were very successful) as well as celebration and business lunches and it is an ideal location for small conferences. There is good car parking and the clubroom overlooks the tranquillity of Holloway Hill Recreation Ground.

Weekends see sport played there - football in the autumn and spring and cricket in the summer - if this is of interest and you would like to participate - come up and speak to one of the organisers or call me or just come up and watch.
